How to use audio practice
Listen to each question and its English answer, then repeat it aloud. Pronunciation of names such as Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Massachusetts improves quickly with repetition, and hearing the questions spoken prepares you for the officer’s voice rather than the printed page. Fifteen minutes a day during a commute or while cooking is enough.
The USCIS civics test (2025 version) draws from an official list of 128 questions. At your naturalization interview the officer asks up to 20 questions in English and you pass once you answer 12 correctly; the test stops at 12 correct or 9 incorrect answers. You must also read one sentence and write one sentence in English. Applicants who are 50 with 20 years as a permanent resident, or 55 with 15 years, may take the civics test in their own language with an interpreter, and applicants who are 65 with 20 years study only 20 designated questions.
